Let’s face it. 99% of television is crap. I stopped watching television regularly back in 1981 and over the years have maybe gotten into five or six shows that I thought were worth watching. And those I will ignore and then just binge-watch on Netflix without commercials after the season is complete.
Movies.. I can catch those in the theater or Netflix.
News.. I get it faster via articles online.
Ads.. If I want something, I can order it online or go to the store and get it.
Let’s look at the person who watches ‘only’ 2 hours of TV a day. That comes to 730-hours per year. That equals 30-days per year of time spent watching TV. That just subtracted an entire month of Life from each year. At that rate, every 12 years you are losing an entire year of your life to the tube. Think about that, a year of time.. gone.
What would anyone give to have an extra year added to their life? Too late about the past.. but for the future? Considering the crappy programming a person gets in exchange for their time (their Life, really).. it’s just not worth it.
Now, as I mentioned at the start, I’m all for having some favorite shows to watch and catching a great movie. Especially if I have a great girlfriend at my side or doing the netflix-n-chill for the evening. But the point is, “all things in moderation.” Don’t spend your Friday thinking about laying in front of the TV as you think about what you ‘might’ go out and do… once the next tv-program is finished.
Do stuff. Get out there. Meet people, do your hobbies or shoot some hoops. But don’t resign yourself to watching ‘other people’ live their life. Do yours.
Absolutely right, its such a waste of time and thats why I dropped
watching TV already over 30 years ago. If I have to sit in a waiting
room somewhere and there is a TV switched on, I will find a seat
which is furthest away from that annoying thing!
